Frequently Asked Questions

What is Friends of Ken Lake hoping to acheive?

Our main objective is to highlight our candidates for the board, and to showcase ideas to help members meet and understand the candidates better. This group was founded to ensure we have open, professional, and efficient management of our community, environment, and common areas.

When is the election?

In a technical sense, the election for new board members takes place on Zoom on November 18th, just before the annual membership meeting. All votes need to be counted before the call to order and MUST BE IN WRITING.

Mail-in ballots have also been sent to every homeowner, and you may vote by returning those ballots to VIS, or by sending an email to info@vismanagement.com with all the same information as is contained in the paper ballot.

This information includes: your name, address, lot number, and your four choices (including write-ins) among the candidates for board member. You may find your lot number via VIS, your title documents, or at the Thurston County Assessor's Website.

If you have a copy of the 2025 printed Ken Lake directory, lot numbers can be found there as well.

If you would like help locating your lot number, you may also call or text Friends of Ken Lake at 360-402-7340

Why do some candidates need to be "write-ins"

There are technical requirements for participating in the election for Ken Lake's LCC candidates. While we hope that all candidates have adequate time to submit their interest and any necessary documentation.

This year (2025), no candidates have asked to be added to the ballot as write-ins, to the best of our knowledge. Please use your vote for a candidate who has declared interest in joining the board.

When are the Annual Meeting Social and the Annual Meeting and should I attend?

The Annual Meeting Social was postponed because voting board members would be out of town.

The Annual Meeting will instead be hosted on Zoom - you may join our watch party or Zoom in from your device - please try this link.

You must log in at 5:50 if you need to make or change your vote.

Votes should be given to VIS directly, using the chat function.

Friends of Ken Lake will host a Candidate Forum on Thursday, November 6 where you can meet candidates and ask questions. All candidates will be invited, though we ask that candidates do not make statements about or misrepresent another candidate.

For the November 18th Watch Party, there will be a social gathering with music, appetizers, and a chance to share some of your thoughts about Ken Lake.  Throughout most of the history of Ken Lake, a social event like this brought our neighborhood together to participate in the governing process.

Please RSVP if you can so that we can have food and beverage and space to accommodate everyone, but if you decide to come at the last minute without having RSVP'd, please come!

Please bring a finger food appetizer for ten to share.

Why is it important to vote on the budget?

Budgets are ratified by the membership each year. The first draft budget was presented in September. After the comment period ended and community feedback submitted, an alternative budget was proposed.

The current budget raise HOA dues for the express purpose of expanding legal fees needed for lawsuits. We are not okay with that, and we are voting 'NO' on ratification.

The REAL Friends of Ken Lake say your fancy website is twisting facts.

A website gives us a place to share our vision and policies, so you can make the best decision with your vote this year. If you are still unsure of our intent, we hope you will reach out personally to any Friends of Ken Lake candidates and ask - we are your neighbors, so we're not hard to reach.

Why didn't I get any pastries?

Huh? Oh right, those flyers. We haven't given out any pastries this year. Elle took pastries to neighbors last year to meet the people in her cul-de-sac because she appreciates their time, and because she enjoys baking with her daughters.

As a disclaimer, if any of our candidates share pastries with you, or have ever shared pastries with you, you do not have to vote for them. Please enjoy your snack!
